Stop. Just stop what you’re doing and go listen to the freshest album from Glasgow rockstars, Walt Disco.
That’s it. That’s the review.
Kidding of course!
April 1st was the momentous day that saw the release of Walt Disco’s debut album, ‘Unlearning’! 12 tracks of pure magic. The Scottish outfit is full of the weird and wonderful in terms of art, creation, and self-expression, elements often missing in today’s artistic pursuits. After the release of EP ‘Young Hard and Handsome’, Walt Disco was preparing to unleash their innermost thoughts on the world and what a mystical place it is.
‘Unlearning’ is an album made out of love. wonderment, and Hollywood glamour. Exploring the power dynamics within music, the glam-rock powerhouse has created a sound reminiscent of classic rock gods Queen, with their own twist. Unlearning is the album for those of us in a time of transformation.
‘In Walt Disco’s eyes, it’s never too late to become what you might have been and there are plenty of possibilities to explore on Unlearning.’
Now, let’s talk tracks. ‘Weightless,’ ‘Selfish Lover,’ and, of course, the well-known ‘Cut Your Hair’ are among the singles released in 2021. What else could Walk Disco possibly give us? The answer, more. The album includes an interlude track aptly titled ‘The Costume Change,’ which was written to represent the structure of a two-act musical. Act 1 includes the latest single from the album, ‘How Cool Are You?’ takes us on a journey of self-discovery. Discerning who we want to be, who we love, and where we want to go. The second act takes on themes of self-reflection, an act not many can achieve.
Each track features the post-romantic vocals of lead vocalist James, with each member bringing their own forms of art to the album. This collection of music which is produced by a group of like-minded people who have no fear of venturing to the unknown, has achieved a level of appreciation that many before them have missed.
Transform. Love. Be you.
