SINGLE REVIEW | VAGRANT REAL ESTATE FT. OAKZY B + ACTIONNN | GOOD INTENTIONS

Aberdeen producer Vagrant Real Estate delivers a nostalgic summer hit with help from two skilled MCs.

Having worked with impressive hip hop stock in the past – including the likes of Aberdeen hero Ransom FA and Queens’ Yung Reno – this new release sees Vagrant Real Estate enlist two MCs from the central belt; Glasgow’s Oakzy B and Stirling MC Actionnn.

The pitched-up vocal hook and abdomen-rattling bass which open the track wouldn’t sound out of place being blasted at British tourists revelling in early 90s Ibiza sun. Oakzy B’s verse arrives unexpectedly and almost jarringly, but the track settles into the juxtaposition quickly – aided in no small part by the MC’s flawless delivery.

The electric piano that welcomes Actionnn into the fray lends the production a satisfying warmth that carries the rapper’s vocals pleasantly, if unobtrusively, from hook to verse. Both MCs’ verses feature the universal constants of ageing, taxes, and conspicuous braggadocio – their flows complimenting one another well and with a pan-UK range of accents and slang.

Vagrant Real Estate has produced a sunset-drenched track that lacks edge in itself, but delivers in underpinning Oakzy B and Actionnn’s well-executed verses. It’s the song for a summer that, sadly, looks like will be spent indoors.
