SINGLE REVIEW | SILVI | DON’T WANNA LOVE AGAIN

Following the success of their biggest single yet, Burning, West Lothian based songstress Silvi returns with their first release of the year Don’t Wanna Love Again.

Drinking from the same water as the likes of Lewis Capaldi, Mark Sharp and The Snuts the woman behind the alias – Jodi Findlay, is naturally anxious about finding her place in a very competitive local music scene. Having only played their first gig as Silvi in 2022, the past year has been quite the ride. The last single Burning was featured on BBC’s Football Focus and even won the Song of the Year last year’s Weekender awards. They sold out the capitals Sneaky Pete’s earlier this year and is already booked to make appearances across the UK including a headline slot at Manchester’s The Sessions music festival in September. The girl even had time to record a documentary with BBC Scotland! Having been selected selected as one of four emerging artists for Wide Days Talent Development Programme, Jodi need not be anxious about Silvi’s future.

Don’t Wanna Love Again is a the natural successor to Burning. Retaining that same seductive energy and bluesy baroque rock orchestration, Don’t Wanna Love Again is a song about love, passion and the anxiety that comes with it. Raw, unfiltered and beautifully vulnerable, Don’t Wanna Love Again takes you on a journey which exposes the biggest of insecurities.

It’s a slow burner but my no means lacking interest. From the soft dreamy piano opening, the orchestration is intense. The song gradually builds in momentum alongside Silvi’s versatile vocals. Each verse towards an explosive finale which climax’s with a full band, crunchy guitars and deep soulful singing.

Silvi could and have already put their hand to an array of different styles over the past couple of years but this current Silvi era is definitely sticking. Regardless of what’s to come,  Silvi’s extensive vocal range is definitely the star of the show here and when there’s talent like this, the potential is endless.
