SINGLE REVIEW | ROSIE H SULLIVAN | FRAGMENTS

Following her successful EP debut 123 East in January, highlander Rosie H Sullivan makes a summer return with the brand new emotive single Fragments. Like previous releases, Fragments display Rosie’s enchanting vocal and captivating song writing at its best.

Growing up away from the hustle on the Isle of Lewis, Rosie’s music and songwriting strongly reflect the warmth and ambience that comes with being connected to nature. Fragments is no exception and instantly captures the soul and imagination of the lucky listener.

“This track means a lot to me as it is all about the place I call home, and the place I carry in my heart and soul wherever I go. I started writing the lyrics when I was leaving Stornoway; the sea was calm, the sky was blue and the rugged, heather-coated landscape was pulling on my heartstrings. In that moment I realised how much the island means to me and I wanted to put that into words in some way. I feel as though I am a part of Lewis, a small fragment of its landscape, and it will always be a part of me.”

Rosie H Sullivan on Fragments

Fragments brings me right back to the magic of Rosie’s first single this year, Expectations. Delivering the same warmth and familiarity, Rosie’s relationship to nature within music is a powerful combination. The delicacy of Rosie’s heartfelt vocals open a portal of escapism whilst instantaneously bringing a sense of calm to the listening ear. The ambiance of the natural string accompaniment arranged by Fiona Hamilton in fusion with the vocal tranquility is spine tingling good. Whilst the inspiration derives from the landscape, the meaning lies within the listener who can attribute it to something significant to themselves. Love, loss, grief or even addiction, Fragments captures a moment of bittersweet reflection which will resonate deeply.

Rosie H Sullivan has already surpassed half a million streams on Spotify with her 2021 debut single So It Is and sold out Glasgow’s King Tuts earlier this year. Her February debut EP 123 East has been gaining steady traction since its within the scene with promising streaming statistics to match. Fragments marks the next chapter in Rosie’s creative adventure. Produced by the same Ross Hamilton who put together her EP 123 East, you just know something special is brewing here.
