Feel The Weight is the second single to be released from the upcoming debut album by Kilgour – How To Put Your Hat On. Whilst the first single, How Was I To Know, relished in its ability to float along with beautiful dynamic changes, lead songwriter Fionn Crossan delves into more angsty, shoegaze territory on this track.
Full to the brim with harmonies, synthesizers and distorted guitars, Feel The Weight recalls bands like Dinosaur Jr and DIIV. Even with an almost slacker vibe, the band remains effortlessly tight, whilst producing what must now be seen as the signature Kilgour sound. I’m unsure if this song was recorded live, but having seen the Glasgow band twice, I can confirm that they are lacking no energy, dynamics or attitude when they perform. You can see them when they play their album launch for How To Put Your Hat On at Stereo on March 9th.
This is a band that is going places and deservedly so. Releasing their first single in January 2020, this is proof that good tunes and songwriting can eventually prevail even in a time when Liam Gallagher singing about his favourite colours can be a Top 20 smash hit.
