After a 15-month long hiatus, Fatherson are back with a new single called Piece of Mind. The Glasgow trio’s last album, Normal Fears, was their last new release until now. Cladius Mittendorfer, producer of 2018’s Sum Of All Your Parts, worked with the band to help complete the song. Piece of Mind is one of two new tracks that Fatherson are planning to release ahead of their UK tour in September.
“We were seriously excited about the direction of the songs,” the band explain, “but hit a bit of a brick wall, so we put a pin in them, and started work on what became ‘Normal Fears’.
“Earlier this year (with the help of Claudius) we finally managed to finish them off. Sometimes these things take time.”
Formed in 2010 in Kilmarnock, the trio have garnered an adoring fanbase who echo back their lyrics at live shows and cheer them on. Their alt-rock sound captured the attention of many, leading to them performing support shows and tours with the likes of Twin Atlantic, Biffy Clyro, Frightened Rabbit and Idlewild. The trio also landed a European arena tour as support for Lewis Capaldi following the release of their third album in 2018.
Piece of Mind is an alt-rock single that pulls on your heartstrings and is dedicated to friendship.
“I wrote the song in a bit of an abstract headspace,” said Ross Leighton, singer and lead songwriter.
“I wanted to see how combining my love of The Rat Pack and Radiohead would sound and I really love how it turned out. Lyrically it’s an ode to friendship and knowing that people have got your back even if you feel like you’ve got ten brains and haven’t figured any of them out yet.”
