SINGLE REVIEW | CHEAP TEETH | THE WIND AND THE RAIN

‘The Wind and The Rain’ is the latest offering from Edinburgh post-punks Cheap Teeth. The first single from their upcoming EP, ‘Give Me More, Show Me Less’, ‘The Wind and The Rain’ showcases a timeless pairing of post-punk cynicism with a lingering, powerful instrumental.

Driven by a crawling guitar riff straight from the playbook of Black Sabbath, weighty guitars and authoritative drums act as a bedrock for an upfront, frenzied vocal performance. Lyrically referencing classic texts such as ‘Animal Farm’ and ‘Citizen Kane’, bleak lyrical imagery throughout the track gives the gang vocal refrain of “our time has come” a sardonic twist.

The track is aided by spacious production courtesy of Catholic Action’s Chris McCrory – the natural, roomy approach to the recording lending the track a further immediacy.

All in, ‘The Wind and The Rain’ is a suitably bleak and powerful statement of intent from one of Scotland’s most compelling up and coming acts.
