GIG REVIEW | BLACK CAT BONE @ SWG3 POETRY CLUB

For me, discovering bands and being able to watch them play live is always a privilege, especially bands that have been making music for around two decades. Entering a room of people that have been fans of a band for years and getting a sense of community but also a deep welcoming feeling is something I experienced personally at the Black Cat Bone gig.

The Scottish rock band played their new album, which they worked on with Owen Morris, a well known producer who produced the first three Oasis albums. Black Cat Bone played ‘Tales of the Amplified’ to a crowd that was underwhelming in size but overwhelming in support at The Poetry Club SWG3 on April 20. Singer Ross Craig stated “we were expecting a bit more people here tonight” before introducing the first song of the night ‘Whoa’.

A stand out song in the set list for me was ‘Speed Queen’ as the heavy solo guitar opening the song grabs your attention building the song just before Kai Wallace comes in on drums.

The band keenly expressed how much they appreciate the support and people making the decision to spend their night with them, connecting with the audience multiple times throughout the intimate gig.

As the show was coming to a close, Black Cat Bone played my favourite song on the album ‘Loose Juice’ – a fast paced song that demonstrates Craig’s vocal strengths from start to finish.

Black Cat Bone and all involved should be proud of the album they’ve made and the show they put on. If you ever have the chance, I would highly recommend seeing the band’s energetic album come to life at a live show.
