Gig Preview | Flyte @ The Caves

Flyte are in the midst of celebrating the release of their third and eponymous album, embarking on a tour across the US, UK and Ireland. The first mainland UK show brings them to the Caves in Edinburgh on 3rd December, before heading along the M8 for a Glasgow gig at Oran Mor on the 4th. Both venues are suitably intimate for Flyte’s confessional, melancholic indie-folk textures.

Flyte – released on 27th October 2023 – is the third instalment from Will Taylor and Nick Hill. The album sees the pair team up with Andrew Sarlo for the second time. Sarlo produced 2021’s This Is Really Going to Hurt, and his repertoire includes collabs with Bon Iver and Big Thief. This is Really Going to Hurt saw Flyte move into a more simplistic and confessional mode, focusing on the aftermath of relationships ending.

Flyte retain the space and beautiful simplicity in their self-titled album, which is inspired by Taylors’ relationship with his partner. It explores love in all it’s early forms and is their most collaborative work to date – featuring Laura Marling, Bombay Bicycle Club and M Field.

For those unfamiliar with Flyte, be prepared for Beatles-esque arrangements, effortless cohesion and harmonies. This acoustic set is not one to be missed.
