ALBUM REVIEW | HOLLOW SILENCE | HOLLOW SILENCE

If death metal is your go to genre, Hollow Silence’s self-titled debut album will be up your alley.

Full to the brim with sweeping break beat drums, heavy thrash style guitars and roaring solos, it’s an album that has its foot on the gas the entire time, refusing to let up for a single moment. Though the band lacks a vocalist, they make up for it with their incredible soundscapes.

Death Metal has become a saturated genre, but Hollow Silence are here to breathe new life into it. Drawing heavy inspirations from early thrash and death metal outfits like Obituary and Sylosis.

Clocking in at a brisk twenty one minutes, the seven tracks featured on the album leave a lasting impact. Almost seamlessly flowing into one another, each song builds a soundscape you won’t be able to get enough of.

Manifestation Of Static kicks the album with a bang. Setting the stage for the rest of the tracks, it features crunchy guitars and drum line that’ll blow your mind.

Within The Hive was the second single release for the album and it’s my favourite of the bunch. Starting slow the song builds and builds before tearing open at the one minute mark. It’s energetic, technically complex and an essential listen for fans of the genre.

Restless takes everything the previous track did so well and cranks it up to the eleven. The drums are faster, the guitars are heavier. It’s a song that’s bound to blow your eyes off if you’ve got your volume too high.

Blistered is the heaviest riff based song the album, full of catchy hooks and a killer guitar solo that pushes the band into a more retro style, whilst throwing in some Doom Metal in their for good measure.

Surgical Precision retains the heaviness, featuring more breakbeats than any other song the album. If you like your metal heavy and varied, this is a song for you.

The Scythe is clearly the most Doom Metal inspired track Hollow Silence have tackled. However, just like their previous songs have proved, the band refuses to stick to one sub-genre, constantly blending different styles to great effect.

In These Empty Halls closes the album on a high note. Incorporating the styles mastered throughout the album, proving once and for all Hollow Silence are a band that needs to watched closely as it’s just a matter of time before they enter the Metal hall of fame.

If you’re looking for something a bit new and your a fan of metal I couldn’t recommend Hollow Silence enough.
