The Lines, a Scottish alt-indie band released their brand new single ‘The Worst’ on April 18th. The band themselves describe this song as “a love song to the terrible.”
The track is immediately captivating as it kicks off with warm sounding guitars, followed by drums subtly make their way into the track and a count in of 4 is heard by the singer. This builds to a crescendo where all of the instruments harmoniously join in along with vocals.
The song is very energetic with roaring guitars, lively backing vocals and bright guitar riffs which evoke the excitement of this song.
The lyrics, particularly at the beginning, discussing unpleasant, frustrating things in life such as sand between your toes and a blocked nose. “Your like a ringing in my ears” highlights the annoying which suggests an irritating, inescapable presence. These lyrics represent the negative feelings that a bad person in your life gives you. The repetition of “You’re the worst” beings the title of the song to mind(‘the worst’) and encapsulates the bad feelings felt towards this person.
The mix of this track is amazing. The effects and processes really add to the groove of the song. The blend of all of the different elements and instruments tie this song together well.

This upbeat song has a catchy, nostalgic sound which I love. Listen to ‘The Worst’ here.
