SINGLE REVIEW | DIVING HORSE | I CAN’T SLEEP

Glasgow sextet dial up the pulse with a glitchy, insomnia-fuelled dancefloor filler.

Sleep feels like a distant memory on I Can’t Sleep, as the Glasgow six-piece lean fully into their most electronic instincts yet. Built for dimly lit dancefloors and racing minds alike, the track surges forward on a restless EDM-leaning groove, fusing dance-punk urgency with a flickering, synth-heavy edge.

From the outset, there’s an unease that drives everything. Skittish beats and warped electronic flourishes create a sense of constant motion, while the bassline locks in with a hypnotic, almost mechanical precision. It’s a sound that nods toward the rhythmic swagger of their inspirations, LCD Soundsystem and the art-school eccentricity of Talking Heads, yet still carves out its own identity.

What truly elevates the track is the back and forth between the alternating male and female vocals. One moment airy and distant, the next urgent and cutting through the mix, they mirror the song’s themes of paranoia and anxiety. Lines like “there’s something in the dark I can’t outrun” capture those spiralling late nights, where every thought feels amplified and inescapable.

Despite its heavy themes, the track never loses its sense of movement. There’s a push toward the dancefloor in every layer, a carefully controlled chaos that feels equally suited to introspective headphone listens and packed-out club spaces.

With I Can’t Sleep, Diving horse deliver a track that thrives in tension, polished yet unpredictable. It’s a bold, electronic-leaning step that suggests there’s plenty more to come from this shape-shifting outfit.
