Rising out from Central Scotland are punk trio The Froobz and their latest single is fuelled by fiery feminine rage.
Influenced by the likes of 80s New Wave bands Talking Heads and Sonic Youth, as well as modern influences from Destroy Boys and Slaves, The Froobz are the powerful alternative-punk group rising up from Central Scotland.
Big Boy, the latest from the band, was released on 23 August, adding to the band’s quickly growing discography. After forming only last year, The Froobz have five singles under their belt and have played with some Scottish legends, including The Vaselines.
“We’ve spent a lot of time trying to think what song to record next. It has been clear during performances that Big Boy always gets one of the most rowdy reactions whenever/wherever we play it live. The positive reaction and feedback we received about it made it a no brainer to record it and release it as our next single,” the trio said.
Big Boy tells the tale of the man who boasts he has his life together, yet it is a complete disaster. These men don’t cook, clean, or earn anything for themselves, rather they expect it to be given to them. It is reflective of past relationships that the band has had, while showcasing The Froobz’s “loud and unhinged attitude”.
Powerful guitar riffs and metallic screeches back the fierce, feminist message in the lyrics. It’s a message that many can relate to, being almost a parent figure in a relationship and how draining that can be. The Froobz took this energy and moulded it into an addictive single that’ll have you screaming the lyrics in anger.
Supporting this release is a string of live shows. You can catch The Froobz on 7 September at Outwith Festival, Dunfermline, and on 26 September at Tunnels, Aberdeen.
More shows are yet to be announced.
Big Boy is now streaming on all streaming sites.
