Saint Sappho – “Too Far Gone/Fade Away” / Single Review

Couple, Zoe Young and Tammy Dyson are queer musicians from Glasgow, who in 2022 formed Saint Sappho.

They both write, record and produce their own music, and after their debut single release “Wicked Game” (2022) and their EP “Green Door” (2023), their latest release is a double single, with tracks titled “Too Far Gone” and “Fade Away”.

“Too Far Gone” has a mysterious and occult start, with what sounds like violins. It’s such a lovely tone and it gives me images of a James Bond opening title sequence.

The crushing guitars and nice drum beat works really well together, especially in the chorus.

One of my favourite parts is the zinging guitar solo near the end, the sound is very cool!

The lead rhythm throughout is addictive.

From the introduction to the song, all the way to the chilling outro, it’s a nice guide from start to finish.

Their next song, “Fade Away”  catches me instantly with a nice strum of an acoustic guitar.

It gets even better when coupled with a swell of an electric guitar, and it really works well hitting off of each other.

I can feel the desperation from the vocals and lyrics in this tune,

I thought we were just getting started,

Didn’t think that we’d be parting”.

This song is really complimented by its strong chorus and soaring vocals, with a catchy hook,

They took it away”

Both songs are grunge, Brit pop perfection and work really well together.

Overall this release is brilliant, the songs themselves are well written and a really interesting listen.

The mixing, mastering and production is perfect. Nothing too over powering, and a lovely blend of instruments with the vocals.

I’m really looking forward to the next release!
