GIG REVIEW| VENDED | THE CATHOUSE GLASGOW | 29.05.2024

“Scotland, you guys want some f*cking more?” Absolutely. Vended, the five-man nu metal group from Iowa, brought an insane amount of energy to their headline gig at Cathouse Glasgow, along with support from The Gloom in the Corner and Profiler. One word to sum up the night – energetic.

Profiler, a nu metal band from Bristol, set the tone for the night, opening up with their song ‘Identify’. The band brought an electric presence to the stage, which had the whole crowd banging their heads in preparation for what was to come for the rest of the night. The band had great interactions with the crowd, bringing the hype and encouraging movement with a style that was reminiscent of early Linkin Park.

The Gloom in the Corner came all the way from Australia to bless us with their wildly entertaining set. Opening up with guttural vocals from their song ‘New Order’. The three-man band clearly understood the assignment for the evening: go hard or go home. The band performed a variety of hardcore moves on the stage while their audience broke out into mosh.

The highlight of Gloom’s performance had to be their interaction and concern for their listeners. Chatting with fans before going on stage, preaching female safety in their song “Nor Hell A Fury” and personally shaking hands with the entire front row at the end of the set, this band knew how to go hard while showing genuine appreciation for their fans.

The menacing-looking five-man group Vended took the stage covered in make-up and masks while playing ‘Tainted Love’ by Soft Cell, which swiftly cut to their new song ‘Nihilism’. This cut instantly set the tone for their set as the crowd went feral. The entire second floor of the Cathouse Glasgow erupted into a magnetic mosh pit that had the ground shaking. From this point on, Vended had brought the energy, and the crowd matched it.

Lead singer Griffin Taylor showcased his phenomenal vocals on their new, unreleased song, ‘Serenity’. This unheard song had the entire crowd moving as if it were their long-time favourite. With powerful vocals, a catchy chorus, and visceral instrumentals, this song is one that I personally cannot wait to be released.

Vended closed the set with their song ‘The Far Side’; however, the fans demanded more. The American band proceeded to play ‘Ded to Me’ and fan favourite ‘Asylum’ in their encore. The band maintained their high energy throughout the entire performance; however, they were close to being outdone by their audience, who continued to crowd surf long after the band had played their last song. Vended put on a phenomenal performance, which left the Scottish crowd definitely eager for more.
