Back to Krakatoa I went, for what was I was hoping would be another fantastic evening of music and I was not disappointed. The sold out show brought out a wide range of ages to attend from those fresh out of school to those less so!
As the venue slowly filled up The Adel Gomez Band took to the stage, fusing together elements of funk, blues and rock ‘n’ roll to provide a well-rounded set to start the evening.

The local band were most successful in gaining audience attention with more upbeat numbers such as Not My Style and debut single Fake It Til’ You Make It which also allowed members to show off their full technical ability.
Despite having recent changes to their line-up, The Adel Gomez Band presented as a tight unit, and those unaware would have never guessed they had not all been playing together for years.
Next up, the main event of the evening. High Fade were taking on their fourth sold out show in Aberdeen tonight. The independent band have been climbing the ranks of popularity from busking on the streets of Edinburgh to having tracks now garnering over 1M listens on Spotify.

However, no algorithm in the world could prepare you for the amount of talent and the phenomenal scale of musicality that was presented on that stage. Lead singer Harry Valentino woo’d the audience with slick and intricate guitar licks, moustachioed bassist Oliver Sentence kept the funking bass lines fresh and drummer Heath Campbell slayed us all with his insane sense of rhythm and unfaltering energy.
The funk/classic rock fusion was a resounding hit. Not only were High Fade a technical marvel to watch but the crowd were fully part of the occasion with plenty of opportunity for participation, without ever erring on the side of forced or cheesy. Perfect examples of this were seen with the infectiously catchy Fur Coat and Bone To Pick.
I was absolutely blown away and look forward to the release of their second album ‘Twice as Nice’ in May. From March onwards they’ll be taking on Europe as well as the USA & Canada with a long line of tour dates. Audiences will be in for a treat!
Relive the evening with the setlist below.
