GIG REVIEW | COUNT THE DAYS W/ COMFORT GIRL, DALMATIC & THE NOISE CLUB | KING TUTS NEW YEARS REVOLUTION

My first gig of 2026 and what a gig to start off with! Piling in from the ice cold weather outside King Tuts was filled with music lovers, familiar Glasgow music scene faces and people who were looking for a good time with loud music. The Count The Days headline saw quite a diverse line-up of the headliners, Comfort Girl, Dalmatic and The Noise Club, yet they all have one thing in common, they know how to grab the attention of everyone in the room.

Opening up the night was The Noise Club who welcomed people in with a mixed rock/punk sound. Getting people to start bopping their heads and wanting to move is the job of the opening act and The Noise Club achieved that. One thing I did really enjoy about these guys was the fact that no two songs felt the same and I was never quite sure what was to come next, but each one was enjoyable.

Second act of the night Dalmatic took to the stage with a sort of 90’s swagger and a sound to match. Easily comparable vocally to the likes of Oasis (and probably looks wise too) but backed by addictive alt rock instrumentals. When watching them I couldn’t help but think this is what would happen if Oasis and The Killers had a child and that child had piles of Scottish energy. For me personally I really enjoyed their more alt rock leaning tracks but that’s just personal preference, I could see from the full room around me that most people there were loving the full set. I also must give an extra shoutout to the bassist of this band because they really grabbed my attention throughout and sounded great.

Now next act Comfort Girl are one I had heard of before but never actually listened to. I had my hopes up a bit high that they would be great so I headed right down the front to check out what they were about. Straight away I knew my feeling was right and I was watching a band that are right up my street. With nu-metal type riffs, big drums, and even bigger vocals. Comfort Girl delivered an in-your-face punk leaning nu-metal sounding set. Unsurprisingly after hearing these guys, they managed to create what was potentially the biggest pit of the night with the vocalist of the band getting right in there.

Don’t get me wrong though Comfort Girl are very capable of softer sounds too and they also showed that off during their time. Even near the end taking on that softer sound right after the massive pit which felt a bit like whiplash. I would like to add that having a moment to come down from that was great but just as we start getting comfortable the vocalist added in some raw screams that honestly felt like a jump scare and I think we need more jump scares in music. The last thing I will say about Comfort Girl before I ramble on too long is starting out heavy and ending with a harmonica is iconic.

Then finally the moment everyone had been waiting for Count The Days took to the stage. With a huge jump from the ever-enthusiastic frontman they lept into action filling the room with their energetic punk rock sound. Count The Days are a band I’ve been watching play since they first started out and seeing them go from support slots to this headline felt kind of special and they definitely proved why they deserved this spot. Not only are their songs catchy and filled with relatable themes but they have a big lovable vibe and some of the most energetic live shows you’ll see.

Throughout the set the band played some new stuff off their brand-new EP, a Rage Against the Machine cover that really got people going and stand out moment, the acoustic cover of their track ‘Springbank Road’. The acoustic cover not only showed how many people love this band as voices rose singing over the unplugged moment in the show, but it also showed how far these guys have come and it felt like a truly special moment.

From start to finish Count The Days made their way through their fast-paced set but this wasn’t enough for the crowd in front of them and as the set reached it’s end the room thundered with the familiar “one more tune” chant and even though the band tried to explain that they literally didn’t have one more no one was giving up. In the end Count The Days treated us to their Rage Against The Machine cover one time letting everyone in the crowd go wild one last time.
