One week after covering a local show at Drummonds, I was back! With so much going on in the city that day, I was pleased to see that there was still a fantastic turn out of punters young and old ready for a night of great live music. This time it was Off Axis who were providing the line-up. known for their gig swaps and fair pay, it has been positive seeing the opportunities they have brought bands, especially with the Seedlings stage at Belladrum Festival the other weekend.
First on the bill were The Collusion. Before they came on, a friend of the band told me they were going to blow the roof off the place and he was not wrong. Only playing their first gig at the start of the year, they gave a performance wise beyond their years. There were clear influences of classic 90s Britpop and it was brilliant to see those executed so well by a band so young without relying on the usual tropes of the genre.
Next up were Avaline, another young band from the local area. They brought a huge amount of energy to a set of indie alt rock tunes. Despite some difficulties with monitors, they delivered a solid performance. Another newly formed band showing a lot of potential for the future.
Then it was time for headliners of the night Saint Disco who came out to the sounds of The Saints Are Coming. With a few more years under their belt as a band, they’ve built up their live show in and around the local area, making this a well-earned headline slot. I had such a fun time with their feel good indie rock songs with Broken and Best Day Ever standing out as two of their best tracks.
Their superpower was their gang vocal greatness which really showed a togetherness within the band. Despite not having any released music, audience members were enthusiastically singing along to their favourite live tracks, proving they’d gathered quite the following. They played a 10 song set, finishing with what will be their first ever single, All These Dreams. Look out for its release in the future!
Overall this was another fun night in Drummonds, showing that the future continues to look bright for live music in the city.
