INTERVIEW | THE DUNTS are Back!

With their headliner at McHullis on the horizon and brand new release, ‘Postman Dead’, Glasgow are set to welcome The Dunts back to the scene once more! The four-piece punk outfit re-emerged in August last year after a hiatus that left fans wanting more. Now, with a renewed vigour, they’re heavier than ever. I caught up with them ahead of their headliner to find out more about what it’s like to be back.

The Dunts burst back onto the scene last year with a brand new single, ‘WASTE OF SPACE’, followed by your most recent release, ‘Postman Dead’, and we’d love to know more. What was the inspiration behind each track?

Colin: Both songs were written very recently and marked a slight shift in our style and genre. Waste of Space was inspired by feelings of procrastination and the self-loathing that comes about from inactivity. Postman Dead came as a follow-up to that; it describes the relentless and monotonous modern grind, symbolically represented as a dying postman. With both tracks, we tried to push ourselves a little, especially by recording them mostly in a live setting. We wanted the recordings to sound exactly as the songs do live, and we think we achieved that perfectly, thanks to Lewis Jaoui, our trusted engineer and producer.

You’re set to headline Mchullis on June 12th. What should we expect to see from the return of The Dunts?

Ally: New songs, old songs we’ve never played before and the retirement of some older tracks. There are a couple of tracks from our debut album that people will hear for the first time. We’re really excited about getting those songs out there. Our support act, The Sankaras, will be giving it their usual theatrics – that will be a good start to the evening. Expect a lot of mosh pits and sing-alongs.

The band re-emerged in August 2025 after a hiatus. How does it feel to be back? Do you feel anything has changed?

Rab: It feels really good to be back. We’ve got a lot more to say. We have a new rhythm section, Aidan and Ally, who played their first show with us last year. It’s still The Dunts, though – maybe just a little bit heavier.

You’ve only got three words to sum up who you are as a band, what would they be?

Colin: Council estate punks

You’ve supported some fantastic artists during your time as a band, such as Baby Strange, The Lafontaines and Gerry Cinnamon. If you could choose any artist to fill your support slot, who would it be and why?

Ally: John Cooper Clarke

Colin: G. McG.

Aidan: Green Day, ‘Dookie’ era

We can’t wait to see what’s ahead of them in 2026! Until then, there’s still time to grab a ticket to their homecoming gig and witness the return of The Dunts.
