After the release of his debut single Nothing Else Matters, Edinburgh indie singer/songwriter Ferguson has released his powerful second single Drawing With Light.
Revealing on his social media that the song was written in 2021, Ferguson stated that is was a crazy feeling that the song was finally released to the world.
The track begins with a sweet riff on the electric guitar, with an acoustic chord progression being layered underneath, showcasing Ferguson’s excellent songwriting capacity despite having very limited experience in the scene.
The lyrics are a major juxtaposition to the gentle sound of the song, it begins with Ferguson meeting someone special, then to her having to leave him, and the song ends with him longing for her. Despite her pleas for him to try to move on. Then she left so I tried, but I need her by my side.
Each chorus of the song feels massive due to Ferguson’s vocal harmonies and layering, they are perfectly performed on this track and they feel very reminiscent of early DMA’s.
The verses are more stripped back, and it gives a more personal touch, showing his vulnerability and his emotional side, reflecting the lyrical content of the song.
Ferguson showcases his influences in this tune and this is of no detriment to him, drawing inspiration from a plethora of different artists and sounds allows him to create these wonderful tracks, and is firmly planting him on the Scottish indie scene map.
With performances under his belt and festival slots coming up in the near future, this Edinburgh future star is absolutely one to watch out for in the coming years.
