GIG REVIEW | OLLY MURS @ OVO HYDRO |  02/05/2025

Dear readers, please excuse my typing, but I can’t stop my hands from shaking from how amazing Olly Murs was at the OVO Hydro! The queues were large, but the anticipation for the night ahead was larger. On May 2nd 2025, Essex’s number one troublemaker, Olly Murs, blessed the Glasgow crowd with his infectious smile and phenomenal energy, but first was a performance from BLUE.

The audience had filled the seats long before Olly took to the stage to witness an incredible performance from BLUE. Opening up with their song “All Rise” was the perfect start to the night. There wasn’t a single fan seated for the remainder of the night. The four-man group from London hit the stage with classic dance moves and stunning vocals that had the crowd going nuts. The band’s performance brought an early 2000’s swagger that the fans couldn’t get enough of.

Simon, Duncan, Antony, and Lee performed major hits such as “If You Come Back”, “Bubblin’” and ended the night with “Too Close”. Each one of the members rocking their own style and energy while coming together in perfect harmony made for a spectacular performance. The best part of the show was not only seeing the love the audience had for BLUE but how much love BLUE had for the audience. Encouraging fans to dance and sing along while clearly laughing and having fun on the stage as a reunited group. The passion the group showed for their music and for their fans was a great performance to watch.

BLUE had the crowd singing and dancing with so much energy that I wondered how they’d have anything left for Olly, but the audience clearly had more than one love tonight, which was shown when Olly Murs took to the stage.

Rising beneath the stage onto his platform, center stage, Olly Murs had arrived, and he was ready to make sure that the crowd was dancing with him from start to finish. Opening with “Troublemaker” in his full tux, he started the night off in style. The singer’s energy and charming grin showed that he was feeling as amazing as he sounded. His energy was displayed through his excellent dance moves, which he performed at each and every corner of the stage, highlighting clear influence from Michael Jackson.

Olly’s performance was a visual treat, and not just because of the athletic Essex troublemaker dancing on stage. The costumes throughout the show showed off not only Olly’s character but how his music has developed and varied throughout the years. His most notable costume addition was, of course, the return of his iconic hat. Olly Donning the hat really marked how far the artist had come in his career, symbolising his early days as a singer, though the change in his style and his music.   Olly’s outfit changes were rivalled only by the use of the digital backdrop. The visuals put on display were stunning, using a range of visual effects and colour to convey the power and mood of each song. The screen often depicted Olly replicating dances and singing along with the live artist, but all eyes were on the real deal.

Without a doubt, one of the best parts of the night was the 80’s tribute. Olly devoted a segment of his performance to his love of music, including hits such as “Beat It”, “I’m So Excited” and “Living On A Prayer”. This section of the night was an unexpected fan favourite that really highlighted Olly’s love for music and performing. Olly danced all through the crowd while belting out some of his favourite tunes.

Olly closed the night with a performance of “Dance with me tonight”, a fitting song to end the night on. Throughout Olly’s performance, he ran through the crowd, waved to fans and encouraged everyone to get involved with the performance. The one thing that was more notable than his music was his deep appreciation of his fans. Olly is a born performer and is a must-see on stage.
