DISCOVERING SCOTTISH SOUNDS | JUNE 2024 | MONTHLY ROUND UP

Well what a first month it has been with Discovery Music Scotland’s new release feature Discovering Scottish Sounds. The purpose of this was to give up and coming scottish bands and artists a platform to showcase their music by adding it to our discovering scottish sounds spotify playlist and sharing across our socials.

The engagement from creatives has been insane and we here at Discovery Music Scotland want to say thank you for your input in getting this off the ground! Without you sending us your music we wouldn’t be able to do this.

Let’s recap everything that June had in store – there is a lot!

Tonto – Liverpool
4 piece indie band from Alloa. “Full throttle rocknroll packed with electrifying riffs, infectious melodies and plenty of swagger.”
For fans of: The View, Oasis, Babyshambles, Stereophonics.

Sunset Phase – Dream breaker
Efe is an electronic music producer from Edinburgh who has been releasing music for the past four years under ‘Sunset Phase’
For fans of: Ross From Friends, Skee Mask and Overmono.

Hollow Silence – Within the hive
Scottish heavy metal band Hollow Silence aim to create music filled with “crushing riffs, shredding solos and speed metal drums“.
For fans of: Sylosis, Trivium, Bleed From Within, Megadeth.

Meja & Michael – Statue of horses
This track is a collaboration between Michael Steele (Edinburgh) and Meja (originally from Sweden). Having met at an event organised by The Edinburgh Collective they began writing music together. With the intential of writing music with ambient folk soundscapes mixed with subtle electronic touches

Layaway – Fire in silence
4 piece Glasgow Alt/Rock band make a strong come back. “Fire in Silence takes a rhythmic punch to the heart and impassioned chorus to propel you through a heartfelt journey beyond despair”. 
For fans of: Kings of Leon, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Brand New.

Racecar – Fall leave
Edinburgh based alt-pop trio Racecar release their latest single from their fortcoming album.”Fall Leave is a salty and comedic poke at fanciful notions of romanticised love and infatuation.
For fans of: Fleetwood Mac, Arcade Fire, Caroline Polachek.

Robin Ashcroft – Passenger seat
This is the second release from Robin’s EP. This song about memories of shared road trips with someone, picture-perfect moments and fall out stages. When they started being distant, I found myself at a crossroads, looking at the empty passenger seat beside me.
For fans of; Maisie Peters, Dasha, Miley Cyrus.

Robbarti – Living with the dinosaurs
A singer songwriter from Glasgow who still has a lot to say and a lot to write about. After taking a 10 year hiatus from Music it’s nice to hear Robbarti and his creativity again.
For fans of: The Strokes, Tame Impala, , LCD Soundsystem.

The Exhales – Bouquet
Four piece alternative band from Glasgow. “Known for their raw energy, infectious hooks,and deeply relatable lyrics”
For fans of: The National, Frightened Rabbit, Interpol.

Hope Avenue – Walk away
Releasing a new song ‘walk away’ ahead of their EP to drop later this Summer. Hope Avenue want to keep their fans guessing what is to come next by keeping their sound super fresh.
For fans of: Bring Me The Horizon, Bad Omens, Day Seeker.

The Zebecks – Roseisle
Glasgow 4 piece drop their summer single Roseilse which branches out into a more traditional folk sounding tune. The song tells a tale of youth, life and death in Scottish culture.
For fans of: The Libertines, Declan Welsh and the Decadent West, and Wunderhorse.

Vida – Tune out of you
Vida have gone full DIY with this release, recording it in their own studio. Tune out of you as a song is about getting the best out of life and all the opportunities it can give.
For fans of: The Beatles, Oasis, The La’s and Tame Impala.

Each Confide – Different Days, still the same
Glasgow synth dreampop duo Each Confide release a new song ahead of their album release in August. They mix indie pop and synth with clever use of autotuned vocals.
For fans of:Bon Iver, Bleachers & The Japanese House.

Sarah Forest – A crazed idiom
The third single to come from Glasgow psychedelic pop/shoegaze solo artist. Switching it up from her usual acoustic tracks to bring this Beatles inspired track.
For fans of: Clairo, Bôa, The Beatles.

Mankind Vindicated – Bypassing capitalism.
 “A shamelessly commercial slice of satire about the fashion industry and commerce, bolstered by industrial guitars and harsh disco as a salty chaser”.
For fans of: Nine Inch Nails, Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk.

Desert Kites – Holiday
Alternative two piece rock duo from Dundee bring their latest track Holiday, drawing inspiration from 90s grunge, hard rock and some classic rock for good measure. “Everybody loves a holiday. Even better, a stolen holiday taken when you shouldn’t. 
For fans of: Van Halen, Foo Fighters, Feeder.

The Sensitive Souls – Nostalgia
An indie rock band from Glasgow giving us a moment to reflect in this song about our upbringing and reminding us that we won’t be here for ever so we should always make the most of each day.
For fans of: Frightened Rabbit, Wrest, Glasvegas.


Night Caller – Begging for a heart to break
Leith’s ‘ sulttry gutter pop’ six piece bring us ‘begging for a heart to break’ from their So Much Pink EP.
“Breaking up is usually hard to do – but sometimes it’s easy. This seedy little Springsteen-flavoured foot-stomper is for the one that you’re glad got away.”
For fans of: Fat White Family, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Fontaines DC.

Cloud House – Broken
Glasgow 5 piece indie rock band Cloud House bring us that heartbreak anthem with a twist, their first release of 2024.
For fans of: Sam Fender, The Killers and The 1975.

Talking About Ray – Escapade
Female fronted three piece rock band from Glasgow drop their debut track . This song explores love, rebellion and the importance of self discovery.
For fans of: Wolf Alice, Black Honey, and Pale Waves.


Forgotten Tides – 2 steps back
Rock band Forgotten Tides hailing from Aberdeen brring us; “2 Steps Back is a grunge-rock powerhouse with huge drums, tight bass, and blistering guitars locking in that rhythm section.” A stark reminder to always be looking forward.
For fans of: Royal Blood, Offspring, Bush.

Silver Dollar Room – Mantle
New on the scene Silver Dollar Room are an alternative rock band who are keen to write about real life and the world as they see it. This particular track follows debut single ‘Little things’. The band have a lot to say and want to be heard.
For fans of: Stone temple pilots, Placebo, Smashing pumpkins.

Gambit – All my love
A fairly new rock and roll band from the capital city. They aim to blend rock, blues and hard rock to create the Gambit sound. Single All My Love is their first ever release with an EP to follow, so watch this space.
For fans of: Led Zeppelin, Guns N’ Roses, Greta Van Fleet.


Heavy Weather – The sweetness of doing nothing
Like a 90s alternative sound? You’ll enjoy this.
“In a life that can feel like being a cog in a never tiring engine, the song is an ode to stopping for a second and enjoying what’s around you.” A fairly fresh out the gate band from Livingston who already have plenty shows and some festivals under their belt.
The Verve, Fontaines DC, slowdive, Blossoms.

KB & The Raskals – Doubt
Alternartive rock three piece bring us an anthem to help us explore self love and resilience.
For fans of: New Order, Joy Devision, The Cure.

King Rib – Hurricane
Craig McIntyre aka King Rib, an Americana style singer songwriter based in Glasgow. Releaes Hurricane ahead of his album ‘Missing People’ coming in August.
For fans of: Smog, Will Oldham, Elliot Smith.

Dyan Winters – The night before the morning after
Indie/Rock four piece from Glasgow are making waves with their latest, slightly heavier release. melodies, “Dylan Winters presents their loudest, biggest and most energetic track yet.
