SINGLE REVIEW | STRANGE DIMENSIONS | ACTING TOO SOON ON IT

Strange Dimensions have returned with their third single, Acting Too Soon On It. Despite only forming a month before the first lockdown, the 5 piece have had an electric start to their musical journey; they’ve already shared bills with Kyle Falconer, Vistas, and emerging acts such as Spyres, Dead Pony, and Shambolics. The band have enjoyed two previous successful releases in The Dregs – Demo and Beauty in Crime, racking in over 80,000 Spotify streams.

Acting Too Soon On It was the product of a late-night phone call during the first lockdown, starting from a mere chord progression and a set of lyrics, evolving into this catchy indie-rock banger. The song is about trust, being able to take a step back and let things happen at the right time. Strange Dimensions, via an Instagram Q&A, commentated on the meaning of the track saying: “It can be hard to come around and see things from another’s perspective, but it’s about that eventual acceptance that two people are just at completely different stages in their life”.

The track consists of catchy guitar melodies and an emphatic drum beat that progresses the song through each stage. The final piece of the puzzle comes in the form of the addition of the synth which provides depth for the track. With heartfelt lyrics throughout such as “Tryna put myself in someone else’s shoes, and it can get no worse than this so what is there to lose” the song takes the listener on an emotional rollercoaster with a fantastic ending, “My place is here, it will forever be, and if you want you can come and join me”.

Strange Dimensions headed into the studio with Bruce Rintoul who has over 10 years of experience in the production field and has previously worked with big names such as Twin Atlantic, VUKOVI, and Fatherson. Speaking to bassist, John Jack, he believes this track is a step up for Strange Dimensions:

We’ve taken a different direction by adding synth throughout the whole song & feel the track is a step up musically from our first two releases. We are buzzing with how it’s turned out & can’t wait for everyone to hear it.”

With a whole host of gigs and festivals under their belt now — namely the coveted Summer Nights event at Glasgow’s legendary King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut as well as the mighty Tenement Trail in 2022 — Strange Dimensions are one of the most exciting up and coming bands around on the new wave indie-rock scene.
