SINGLE REVIEW | JORDI FOX | STUDIO 54

Definitely a dramatic change from his debut single ‘September’, ‘Studio 54’ is a testament to how versatile Jordi Fox can be as a musician. As is noted within the song, artists like the Bee Gees, Donna Summer and Sister Sledge played an important role in building this disco inspired track, and you can certainly hear it in the production as well as the melody.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Studio 54, it used to be an incredibly well known nightclub in New York City during the late 1970’s at a time where disco music was still at its peak. A lot of famous figures would regularly visit the club and its signature stylistic piece was a giant moon at the centre of the dancefloor that would get fed each night something different by a big spoon. This song is a homage to that time I assume because Jordi Fox has come to love disco music.

It is a sweet and nostalgic view of the 1970’s in New York City and certainly a very fun and creative endeavour that I can’t imagine a lot of people taking on. As is evident by his ‘Sex Education’ inspired music video for ‘September’, and the John Hues references within that song, his love for popular culture has certainly played a pivotal role in shaping his career so far and I am excited to see where it takes him and what we’re going to hear next from him.
