SINGLE REVIEW | BOOTLACE | BACK TO BACK

From the Scottish capital, this band brings the heat with hot new single, released on July 2nd. Back to Back is an indie rock/pop piece brought to you by Bootlace.

This single is a truly thought-provoking piece as it anchors on the societal issues in Edinburgh. Hooking in listeners with their introspective storytelling and compelling melodies, it’s no wonder they are a part of Edinburgh’s ever-expanding music scene.

Blasted with an indie-feel from the first few seconds of this single, listeners will be captivated by the dynamic instrumentals and heartfelt lyrics.

Joseph Young, the lead singer and lyricist of the band, talks about the inspiration behind Back to Back.

He said: “This song follows along the fictional tale of Sonny Wortzik, portrayed by Al Pacino in Dog Day Afternoon and ties him into the rise of youth crime we’re living through today.

In Edinburgh especially, the hypocrisy is startling when a mile away from yah’s in leather jackets sipping lattes you have kids in balaclavas walking around armed with axes in broad daylight.”

Joseph’s angsty vocals contrast nicely against the indie/post-punk instrumental, projecting the message of this song outstandingly.

Produced by Edward Meltzer (Dinosaur 94, Columbia Records/ Sony Entertainment), Back to Back utilises everything that Bootlace has to offer. Full of strings, keys, various guitars and Austen Brunton bringing the beat of the drums, this track sets the tone for what their band is all about.

Bootlace continue to push against the usual sound found in the north east. Weaving inspiration from Scottish history, the group creates a unique sound of post punk with hints of folk music.

Back to Back is available to stream from 2nd July on all major streaming platforms.
