Glasgow’s 4-piece band Vertige released their debut single, ‘Blue’ on 11th April. These fellas were formed in 2024 and have already made a dent in the live gigging scene by playing in venues such as McChuills, Bloc+, Audio, and King Tut’s. The band are a post-punk group which have hints of shoe gaze in there.

Hearing about them recently from a friend, I was instantly grabbed in by this new track
‘Blue’ and was able to get a little insight from the band. They took inspiration from King Krule for their dreamy instrumentals, and a storytelling feel of Lou Reed for their lyrics. The song was written around a year ago with the strong idea of a hypnotic guitar riff. From the beginning of the song, there are elements of a spacey kind of vibe that then pushes you into the hypnotic riff followed by the calming vocals from the frontman. The instruments complement his voice well. About a minute into the song, there is a change in the noise as it becomes more chaotic, yet the calming vocals are still going strong.
The single is about “everything being wrong in a moment where everything should be right, and the effects that lead to an uncanny feeling”. It happened to be one of the first tracks that were brought to the band in full, and upon hearing the rough demo, they knew they had something special. Can’t help but agree with them there, from the farout guitars to their soothing vocals. Near the end of the song, the drums were the sound that stood out as it sounded like a kind of tribal sounding drum which got my attention.
Vertige will be playing King Tut’s Summer Nights on the 9th of August alongside Twisted
Ends, Tracers and Phanilla. Get your ticket from the link: Summer Nights Tickets
