Northern band Katanes started the new year off with a bang, releasing their first ever single
‘Drown’ at the end of January.

Katanes connected through previous projects together. They decided to go for it and start a new journey together as a band with Adam Warees singing, Derry Shearer on the guitar and Robbie Gunn drumming. Katanes hope that 2025 will be a prosperous year for them. They aim to perform at lots of live shows and have several single releases.

‘Drown’ is an up beat, easy listening song with its solid drum beat, powerful vocals and brilliant guitar riffs. There is a driving rhythm throughout which is really captivating and keeps this song’s energy electric. The guitars play a huge part in this song, adding depth and excitement to this mix. The chorus which is sung over a handful of times is very catchy. I can picture the crowd participation at future gigs, having fun and joining in singing this chorus. I could definitely see this song being played at a festival in the future, getting the crowd going. This track is also well mixed. It has just the right levels of instruments creating a balanced, well sounding mix. I especially liked where the guitars sound out at the end of the mix. This gave a live, authentic sound which I think made this song. The song name being ‘Drown’ is ironic as I feel you can really get swept away in the roaring guitar sound which is exhilarating and makes this record.

This new single is a great start for Katanes and their journey to come as a newly formed band. It is exciting to see what singles they will release in the future and the gigs that they will perform at.
