SINGLE REVIEW | ELSIE MACDONALD | FINEST SENSE

The single, Finest Sense, by Elsie MacDonald, is an inspiring, uplifting theme to a warm summer’s day.

The song forms part of their latest EP, Dressage Lessons, which released independently on the 18th of October 2024.

A peculiar feeling hits you as soon as the song begins, as we are met with traditional acoustic guitar, striking a feeling of familiarity and comfort. To accompany MacDonald’s strong vocals, we can also hear beautiful fleeting violins fading in and out, and birdsong, providing imagery of a peaceful walk in the Scottish countryside.

Elsie’s personality and homeland shine through in this single, especially as we can hear their prominent Scottish accent – something nowadays which seems rare, and so we can appreciate this down-to-earth authenticity from them.

Overall, this is a strong single, especially considering it was released before the EP, acting as a glimpse to the listener for what is to come next.
