SINGLE REVIEW | CALL CONNIE | TWO TIMES OVER

As a child of indie pop and rock, having grown up with The Vaccines, Call Connie’s new single Two Times Over sounds familiar from the very first listen. Despite its recent release, it feels like a song I used to jam to in high school, sandwiched between Plain White T’s and other bands coming out of the early 2000s indie pop American boom. The lyrics and the sound are reminiscent of songs that will feel incredibly familiar if you are in your late 20s.

Three minutes long, it passes by quite quickly; I had to check the running time twice to be sure I wasn’t incorrect. Its quick, punchy pace makes it sound like a shorter song, probably due to the energetic instrumental start, and after the third listen it just sticks like a song you have been listening to all your life. I found it fateful that I had to review this as I am about to hit my 30s, because the feeling was the same as listening to a song for the first time at 15, when you want to dance your wee heart out in contentment.

All in all, this is an energetic and fun new single, with catchy lyrics—something that feels like a future fan favourite, as I can see the crowd singing back the chorus:
“But if he really loved you, I reckon he’d have touched you more than twice by now.”

As of 12 September 2025, you can listen to Two Times Over on Spotify, as it cements Call Connie as a great representation of the talent still coming out of Scotland.
