GIG REVIEW | KLOANS | McCHUILLS

Scottish Indie rock band Kloans performed alongside other artists at an Indie Chaos night at McChuills in Glasgow.

Kloans were the first band to play, setting the tone for an amazing night. They shared their original songs, many from their new EP ‘Rebirth’.

One of the opening songs Kloans performed was ‘Cut the brakes’ from their latest release. This song brought energy from the very beginning, with a build up at the start of the song leading into a lively melody with upbeat drums, bold vocals, groovy bass and energetic electric guitars.

One song that stuck out to me was ‘Rear View Mirror’. This song had very catchy guitar riffs and tight, punchy drums which were very captivating. Another thing I loved about this song was that the female lead vocal was supported by an excellent male vocalist singing harmonies. This added depth to the song, bringing this performance together nicely. Towards the end of the song there was an interlude of some funky bass guitar ostinatos, then each instrument began to be introduced back into the song until the build up before the song ended. This created an exciting, engaging ending to this song.

Kloans finished their set with the song ‘Walk On’, one of their older songs. The powerful, belting live vocals in this performance were absolutely amazing. The tight drums and bass guitar grooves added another dimension to this song. The roaring electric guitars yet again caught my attention. They elevated the song, especially in the chorus, hooking the audience with their catchy riffs. This was an excellent song to end the set with.

Overall, Kloans are a wonderful band and kicked off the night amazingly with their great live performance. Check them out for yourself and listen to their new EP ‘Rebirth’ here
