GIG REVIEW | THE SUITS @ THE CLASSIC GRAND

Rising indie-rock band The Suits hit the Classic Grand with a raw and captivating headline set on Saturday 15th February. The night hosted a stacked line-up with support from Glasgow-based Aidan Moore & The Outkkasts and alternative rock band Uprizing.

The Suits – a young female-fronted band formed in late 2023, are already making waves in the music scene with the release of their debut EP ‘ALL IN’ in February 2024. The Suits have since played in several venues across Glasgow including Room 2, The Old Hairdressers, and Nice N’ Sleazy. The young indie four-piece also played at The Glad Café in Pollokshaws as part of the Rumpus Room fundraiser on 15th December.

The night kicked off with a cover of ‘Suddenly I See’ by Scottish folk-pop singer KT Tunstall, instantly setting the tone of ebullience. The rising four-piece consists of lead vocalist Rosie Griffin, Iris Hendry on guitar and vocals, Chloe Neale on bass and Anna Borrowman on drums. The 2nd song of the set unveiled ‘Clementine’, an unreleased track hinting at future creative endeavours in the works.

Recently released singles ‘Sixteen’ and ‘Rodeo’ also featured the set, both of which just released on Spotify in January. ‘Rodeo’ featured a slightly heavier, rock-infused style – a track that perfectly encapsulated the band’s ability to dip into different genres. Meanwhile ‘All We Need’, the 3rd track from their debut EP, showcased The Suits’ talent in encouraging crowd engagement when singing the chorus “And you’re with me / And I’m here with you” – a catchy hook that got the crowd singing along.

Their effortless stage presence and radiating confidence shone through their rendition of ‘High and Dry’ by Radiohead, a cover that flaunted the vocal range of Rosie Griffin whilst also showcasing impressive guitar instrumentals from Iris Hendry and Chloe Neale. An unreleased original track, introduced by Hendry as a current ‘work-in-progress’ had a catchy rhythm and great potential to form into a new hit single for the band, through its punchy drums and harmonisation between all band members.

The set came to an end with ‘Blindly In Love With You’, the opening track from the EP. This was a stunning and perfect track to close the night with the lead vocalist devoting the song to those in relationships on Valentine’s Day.

The Suits are definitely an up-and-coming band to watch out for in 2025, make sure to catch them on social media below:
